Pleasantville Fourth-Graders Visit To Middle School Tops Weekly Update

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Fourth-grade students from the Bedford Road School walked to the Pleasantville Middle School Tuesday, May 19, and met the fifth-graders, who gave them a tour of the building. They had the opportunity to ask questions of the current fifth graders and met the Middle School teachers and administrators.

At Bedford Road School (BRS):

  • The BRS community enjoyed the May 19 annual BRS Art Show.
  • BRS thanks all the parents and community members who supported the PTA bake sale.
  • Katerina McTiernan’s second-graders “traveled” to outer space during their performance of “The Magic School Bus in Outer Space” on the BRS stage. 

At the middle school:

  • Andrew Skrzypczak was awarded a silver medal in the national French examination.
  • The sixth-grade band, jazz band, orchestra and chorus concluded their spring season with a performance Wednesday, May 20.

At the high school (PHS):

  • Camerata, Razor’s Edge and the String Orchestra performed in the Music in the Park Festival at Six Flags New England Friday, May 15. All three groups were awarded first place trophies. Camerata also received the “Best Overall Choir” trophy and Katherine Stargiotti was named “Best Vocal Soloist.”
  • The annual Pleasantville High School art show was held at the Jacob Burns Media Arts Lab Saturday, May 16.
  • “Man of La Mancha” received 12 Metro nominations including Outstanding Overall Production.The award ceremony will be held at Stepinac High School Monday, June 1.
  • Westchester Community College acknowledged the schools that participated in its ACE program, through which students can receive college credit for college-level courses offered by their high schools, and honored students who excelled in ACE courses. PHS students Kent Arnold, Patrick Bathon, Christopher Belmont, Isabella Schwartz and Audrey Tuck were among those honored as outstanding ACE Scholars. 
  • The first annual STEM Career Fair took place Monday, May 18 in the PHS cafeteria.
  • Boys’ Varsity Lacrosse won its first Section I championship, beating Bronxville 9-7.
  • Thursday, May 21 was Upstanders Day at PHS. Students were encouraged to be “upstanders, not bystanders” and to take an active role in changing the world.
