The Board of Education approved the contract at its recent meeting, with school officials saying it would save more than $300,000 over the next two years. Superintendent Mary Fox-Alter thanked the teachers “for their cooperation and sensitivity to these challenging economic times.”
The new contract, which is posted on the district's website, does not include salary increases or stipend increases. Pleasantville teachers did not get a salary increase for the 2011-13 contract as well.
The new contract also includes an increase in health care contributions and changes in the health insurance buy-out option for employees who do not participate in the district's insurance plan.
School officials noted the new contract's terms are “significantly” below the Triborough amendment, an amendment to the Taylor Law that goes into effect when no contract has been released.
Lois Winkler, president of the Pleasantville Board of Education, praised the teachers for “their willingness to do what is best for our children and for the entire Pleasantville community – a community that they are a very important part of” in again agreeing to a settlement that is under what they would have been entitled to by law.
