SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. -- Think math can't be fun? Think again. Both students of Pocantico Hills School and their families came out for an evening of math activities on March 9 at Family Math Night.
It was a night of fun and games, as the organizers tried to prove that math can be as entertaining as it is essential.
Students school-wide, from pre-K to eighth grade, participated in activities ranging from using manipulatives -- hands-on teaching tools -- and models, to games that involved money and making change, like "Cash It In," probability, math contests, and challenges that included the higher-level thinking of proving theorems.
Teachers explained the concepts embedded in each activity, and then the kids and families went to work ... or play. This was the school's second annual Math Night, and it had great turnout.
The Pocantico Hills School is located at 599 Bedford Rd., Pocantico Hills, Sleepy Hollow.
