A formal vote on her appointment should take place later in April.  She will replace Marilyn Terranova, who has been interim superintendent since January, the board said.

A former longtime resident of Rockland, Spillane lives in Old Tappan, N.J.

Conklin-Spillane announced her resignation as principal of Sleepy Hollow High School in the Tarrytowns School District in January after 22 years in the position.

She will officially step down from her Sleepy Hollow post at the end of the school year on June 30.

In her Sleepy Hollow role, she worked closely with the Pocantico Hills Central School, representing one of three partnering high schools for Pocantico’s graduating eighth-grade students, school officials said.

Emily Segal, board president, said the board is especially excited to have Conklin-Spillane come board because of her long relationship with the district.

Segal praised Conklin-Spillane as “a respected, nationally recognized educator who also brings demonstrated commitment to our children.”

Spillane-Conklin helped lead Sleepy Hollow High School to several state and national distinctions.

In 2012, she was named Outstanding Regional Administrator of the Year by the Empire State Supervisors and Administrators Association.

Last year Conklin-Spillane was appointed to Gov. Andrew Cuomo's Common Core Task Force.
