Putnam County Educators React To Education Commissioner's Departure

PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. – New York State Commissioner of Education John King received mixed reviews for his performance as he leaves for a position with the Obama Administration, The Examiner reports.

King has been surrounded by controversy since the debate about the new Common Core standards began.  

According to CoreStandards.org, Common Core State Standards demonstrate what students are expected to learn at each grade level to be better prepared for college, careers and life. However, critics argue the transition would be difficult for some teachers and students.

King recently visited Putnam Valley Elementary School to observe teachers and students as they learned the Common Core guidelines. Putnam Valley School District teachers as well as district board members and lawmakers expressed different views about King.
