“We’re proud of them,” said teacher David Mintzes. "This year has been great. They’re a lot of fun to work with. They are smart and nice, and they enjoy this kind of stuff.”

Mintzes and teacher Jennifer Granich led the team, which includes seniors Carl Bespolka, Steven Carpenter and captain Dylan Weil, and juniors Sabrina Bellantoni, Pearse Callaghan and John Philip.

The students competed in subjects such as math, science, literature, opera, art, geography, poetry and composers throughout the year.

This is the first time in six years that Valhalla has competed in the national competition. The school qualified last year but was informed too late for travel arrangements.
