Valhalla Schools Superintendent Dr. Brenda Myers said dust covering a sensor was responsible for setting off the alarm around 9:50 a.m. Protocol requires the building to be evacuated until emergency officials inspect the facility and declare it safe.

Students were allowed to back into the building about 15 minutes later.
