Following the evening Pep Rally on Friday, Oct. 17, the district will host a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Viking Stadium field. The Pep Rally begins at 7 p.m. – the events will be followed by a Boys Varsity soccer game against Westlake High School at 8 p.m. “Being able to upgrade our athletic field is a tremendous tribute to the vision and hard work of the community,” said Superintendent Brenda Myers. “We greatly appreciate everyone’s ongoing support for the children of the Valhalla School District.” The turf replacement was part of the district’s $3.6 million capital bond that the public approved in November 2013. The bond included turf replacement and field drainage repair for Viking Stadium, along with district-wide security upgrades, high-priority infrastructure work and a new air-conditioner for a school’s gymnasium. The new Viking Stadium opened for use in September, and the sports teams have since enjoyed playing on it. Valhalla Athletic Director Jamie Block noted that the bleachers offer great sight lines for the crowd. “There isn’t a bad seat in the house,” he said. “The turf is a wonderful facility for the entire school community that will be used constantly. This endeavor was supported by the entire community. They take such pride in playing sports, watching athletes, and listening to people say ‘wow.’ It’s really great.” Valhalla community members are invited to the sports games throughout the week to cheer on the student-athletes. The schedule for Valhalla’s home games during Homecoming Week through Oct.18 is below: Wednesday, Oct. 15: 4:15 p.m. Varsity Girls Tennis vs. Westlake 4:30 p.m. JV Boys Soccer vs. Woodlands 4:30 p.m. JV Field Hockey vs. Irvington 6 p.m. Varsity Field Hockey vs. North Salem Thursday, Oct. 16: 4:15 p.m. Modified Boys Soccer vs. Briarcliff 4:15 p.m. Varsity Boys Soccer vs. Bronxville 4:30 p.m. JV Girls Soccer vs. Dobbs Ferry 6:30 p.m. Varsity Girls Soccer vs. Dobbs Ferry Friday, Oct. 17: 4 p.m. Varsity Field Hockey vs. Ursuline 4:15 p.m. Modified Field Hockey vs. Briarcliff 4:15 p.m. Modified Girls Soccer vs. Westlake 4:15 p.m. Modified Volleyball vs. Pocantico 8 p.m. Varsity Boys Soccer vs. Westlake Saturday, Oct. 18: 1:30 p.m. Varsity Girls Soccer vs. Lincoln HS 1:30 p.m. Varsity Volleyball vs. Yonkers HS 5 p.m. Varsity Football vs. Yonkers Montessori Academy
