The play centers around small vignettes that showcase different types of relationships, including a dating couple, a husband and wife, and a “bromance.” All of the relationships evolve throughout the play. “It’s a beautiful show with lots of depth and heart,” said director Julie Colangelo-Dore. “It has a nice message. It has both funny and quirky moments, as well as full-of-heart moments. The audience will be introduced to something that they haven’t seen before.” There are 28 Valhalla High School students participating in “Almost, Maine.” Due to the fact that so many people auditioned for a role, the girls’ parts are double-cast, meaning that while the male actors stay the same for all four performances, the female actors will change for some performances. Double-casting the female roles allows more students the opportunity to act and shine on stage, said Colangelo-Dore.

Rehearsals began in early October and the students are now ready to perform and are excited to be on stage, she said.

“I’ve never had such a great time directing a play,” said Colangelo-Dore. “The Valhalla students are great. They are really working hard. They’re fantastic and really so wonderful to work with.”

Local residents are encouraged to attend a showing of “Almost, Maine.”

“The community should always support live theater arts because there is no other form of entertainment like it,” said Colangelo-Dore.

Performances will run on Dec. 4 at 7 p.m., Dec. 5 at 7 p.m., and Dec. 6 at 1 and 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the door, and cost $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors.
