Valhalla Middle School Program Makes, Decorates Gingerbread Houses

VALHALLA, N.Y. -- On Dec. 17, the Valhalla Middle School Partners' Program met for its Winter Extravaganza, an end-of-year celebration. In addition to spending time together, the groups each opened gingerbread house-making kits and worked to assemble and decorate them for the holidays.

The Partners' Program was created as a mentorship program. Its goal is to join students with staff members to form a special bond. If a student needs help -- whether academically, socially or emotionally -- they have an established relationship with a teacher who they already know and trust.

Throughout the Winter Extravaganza, the student/teacher teams positioned the gingerbread to resemble a house and squeezed icing out of a tube, which acted as the glue.

They then decorated the houses with sprinkles, frosting, cookies, chocolate, gummy candies and mints.
