"We learn a lot about firefighters, police and the military from school and at home and we know they are heroes," said Bartlett, who was decked out in her red, white and blue outfit. "It's a day when we can go crazy wearing great outfits, but it's to honor the soldiers who do so much for us."

Red, White & Blue Day was held in conjunction with a the nationwide "Jeans For Troops Day" and honored all military personnel, past and present, who have made the sacrifice to serve the United States. The children, teachers and administration wore their jeans and colors throughout the day to show their appreciation for the military.

Each person who participated in the "dress-up" donated $5 to the G.I. Go Fund, which helps veterans make the transition back to daily life, and provides support for educational and employment opportunities.

"We have soldiers who come from our community -- were students here 15 years ago -- who we are honoring," Kensico School Principal Matthew Curran  said. "The children see so much on television about the armed forces and they know about the sacrifices these men and women make. They are excited about Red, White & Blue Day and being able to help."

Students wore Uncle Sam hats, masks, eye wear, bangles, spangles, head dresses and shirts with American flags on them as they moved from class to class.
