The day will honor all military personnel, past and present, who have made the sacrifice to serve the United States. The children, teachers and administration in Valhalla will wear the colors red, white and blue throughout the day to show their appreciation for the military. Each person who participates will donate $5 to the G.I. Go Fund, which helps veterans make the transition back to daily life, and provides support for educational and employment opportunities.

“We want to encourage our students and families to join us in recognizing the sacrifice that our troops and their families have made to defend our freedom,” said Valhalla Schools Superintendent Brenda Myers. “What a great sight it will be – everyone here proudly displaying the colors of red, white and blue in support of our military.”

This year marks the 15th annual National Military Appreciation Month.

"Although parents will not be at school with their children on May 22, they, too, are encouraged to wear red, white and blue throughout the day," representatives said.

Donations on the behalf of parents and family will be accepted by each building principal.

“Thank you to all of our military members and families – past and present,” Myers said.
