The first two propositions are like-minded regarding the sale of a district property, along with the request to create a new reserve fund to deposit the proceeds from the sale.
The district is looking to sell its former instructional space on Columbus Avenue to Easter Seals of New York, which currently rents the building. The money from the proposed sale will be kept in the reserve fund to use for future building renovations.
In addition, there is an advisory proposition to gauge the public’s opinion about the potential implementation of a veterans’ tax exemption. The proposition asks whether the Valhalla community is interested in funding a tax exemption for local veterans that could possibly take effect next year.
In December 2013, Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed a law that allows school districts the opportunity to provide tax exemptions to veterans who qualify, similar to those already established and offered by municipalities.
Voting will take place at North Castle Community Center, Virginia Road Elementary School and Kensico School. Voting will be held from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.
