Valhalla Vikings Win By One Point, Meet Basketball Alum From '70s And '80s

VALHALLA, N.Y. -- It was a special night for the Valhalla High School boys varsity and junior varsity basketball players on Jan. 22. Not only did they beat Pleasantville High School, but they were also visited by members of the Valhalla basketball teams from the 1970s and 1980s.

Near the end of the intense game against Pleasantville, the Valhalla team trailed by one point -- 48 to 49. With two seconds left, 10th-grader Orlando Clarke scored a "buzzer beater" to win the game by one point.

When the ball sunk through the net, the Vikings players jumped into the air, cheering and hugging each other. The final score was 50-49 for Valhalla.

The audience included Valhalla alumni and former basketball players from the late 1970s and early 1980s. They stepped onto the court to give a speech and honored an old teammate who recently passed away.

While a few of the alumni were somewhat local, others traveled from farther away, including a trip from Tennessee.
