VALHALLA, N.Y. -- Westchester Community College filed more than 600 lawsuits between January and October of 2014 in an effort to collect unpaid tuition, according to LoHud.com.
So far, the community college has been awarded nearly $117,000 in judgements agains 76 former students. The result is a comparatively low past due balance for tuition payments. WCC has a past due balance of $779,000, versus Rockland Community College, a school that doesn't pursue legal action against past-due students. RCC currently has a past-due balance of $3,395,000, LoHud.com reported.
WCC officials say the continued increase in litigation against delinquent students is because of a new software program that allows them to track payments, or lack thereof, better, LoHud.com said.
