Westchester Common Core Conversation Set For Jan. 23

ARDSLEY, N.Y. -- The New York State Allies for Public Education are set to present a special forum for parents and residents concerned about Common Core standards.

"Runaway Reform: The State of Public Education in New York State" is set for 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, at Ardsley Middle School. The forum is for parents, educators and community members, who are concerned about the direction of public education, officials said.

Speakers for the event include Carol Burris, principal at Southside High School and 2013 New York state principal of the Year; Leonie Haimson, executive director, Class Size Matters; Ken Mitchell, superintendent, South Orangetown Central School District and president, Lower Hudson Valley Council of Superintendents; and Bianca Tanis, special education teacher and Co-Founder New York State Allies for Public Education. The event is co-sponsored by the New York Suburban Consortium for Public Education and New York State Allies for Public Education.
