Westlake Freshman Wins Awards At Robotics Competition

MOUNT PLEASANT, N.Y. -- A freshman at Westlake High School is part of a seven-member team that took three awards at the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) competition at Kennedy Catholic High School in Somers in January.

Sarita Servidio is a member of the Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson robotics team called "Techno Chix." She has been a member for the past year and was a member of middle and high school level techno teams for the past three years.

There were 18 teams participating. The competition was a qualifying tournament for the FTC Hudson Valley chapter and with their three awards, the Techno Chix team will go on to compete in the FTC Regional Tournament at Pace University on Feb. 21. 

The team placed first for the THINK award, which recognizes the engineering design journey from start to finish. They also earned a third place award for design and aesthetics.

They placed third in the INSPIRE award, the highest honor for top contenders and role model teams.
