Westlake High School Ready For Homecoming Weekend

THORNWOOD, N.Y. – It’s that time of the year again, as Westlake High School is prepared for its annual homecoming weekend.

This weekend has a special meaning, as Westlake will unveil new bleachers at the school’s main athletic field on Friday afternoon.  Construction on the bleachers began over the summer and a ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 4 p.m. on Friday to open them to the public.

Westlake’s student athletes will also use this weekend’s games to send a message.  Students have declared that Saturday’s varsity girls soccer game and football game will be declared “dignity games.”  All of Westlake’s athletes will wear cloth wristbands that say “Respect and Tolerance” on one side and “Dignity Games” on the other. Westlake will provide the wristbands to their opponents as well. The wristbands represent one of many anti-bullying initiatives that Westlake students have organized this school year in an effort to spread awareness about bullying and how to prevent it.

On Friday, following the ribbon cutting ceremony for the bleachers, the Westlake boys soccer team will take on Briarcliff High School on the main field at 4 p.m.  At 4:15 p.m. on the same day, the Westlake volleyball team will play Croton-Harmon High School in the Westlake gym.

Westlake’s annual float presentation will take place at 6:30 p.m. outside of the high school in which each grade will present their homecoming themed parade float.  The contest will be followed by a pep rally at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, the girls soccer game against Blind Brook High School will be at 10 a.m. on the main field.  The weekend will be concluded with the varsity football game against Irvington High School at 2:30 p.m.
