Unger was nominated by Elaine Donnelly, Recreation Supervisor, for her dedication and work ethic. The Youth Award is given to an outstanding Westchester County high school or college student who has displayed a keen interest and participation in the field of recreation.

The honor roll student, began volunteering for the recreation department in 2011, helping with child workshops for the Parents Night Out and the annual Fall Foliage Festival. She was hired by the recreation department when she turned 16 in the recreation office after school and as a day camp counselor in the summer.

Donnelly has high praise for Lauren: "Her work ethic is admirable. She is caring, reliable, conscientious and hard working and brightens up our day with her funny attitude and big smile. We all enjoy working with her."

Unger is a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society and English Honor Society. She is also an avid tennis player. As part of the recognition, she received a certificate and $500 award.
