Briarcliff High School Salutes College-Bound Student-Athletes

BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. -- Briarcliff High School will be well-represented in college athletics in the fall.

The high school held a ceremony last week to honor its 12 seniors who have committed to playing college sports.

"These young people have earned their stripes," guidance counselor Nathan Hetzel said. 

Athletic Director Chris Drosopoulos said he could not recall a year so many athletes went on to play college sports.

"This has been a memorable year," Drosopoulos said. "I feel blessed to be surrounded by such dedicated coaches and athletes."

Cassidy Carrafiello will be playing soccer at Hobart and William Smith Colleges. Carrafiello won numerous all-league and all-section awards during her time as a four year starter. 

Matthew Dineen will be joining the swimming and diving program at Renesselaer Polytechnic Institute. Dineen was a varsity captain, a three-time sectional finalist and a four-time divisional finalist. 

Blake Elwood will be running track at Fordham University. Elwood served as team captain and cross country captain, earning multiple all-league honors.

Samuel Hahn will be playing lacrosse for Manhattanville College. Hahn was a team captain who played defense and was known for his physical presence and attention to detail.

Michael King will be playing baseball at Stevenson University. King was ranked as one of the top 100 pitchers in New York State, posting a 2.51 career ERA.

Daniel Miller will be playing lacrosse for the University of Scranton. Miller, a team captain, made all-league and all-section honorable mention during his time at Briarcliff.

Eleni Najarian will be swimming at Bentley University. Najarian was a captain at Briarcliff and will swim backstroke and freestyle at Bentley.

Phillip Nasaralla will be playing soccer at Renesselaer Polytechnic Institute. At Briarcliff, Nasaralla has 14 career goals and 21 career assists and won all-league in 2014.

Grace Orr will be playing soccer at Amherst University. At Briarcliff, Orr was named to all-league, all-section and all-state.

Stefano Paone will be playing lacrosse at Rollins College. Paone was a captain who made all-league his junior year.

Melanie Prinz will be playing lacrosse at the University of Rochester. At Briarcliff, Prinz was a captain who won numerous all-league honors and scored more than 200 points.

Ian Wax will be running track and field for Bates College. At Briarcliff, Wax was a 2015 Westchester County Champion.
