Host Kensico Sweeps Softball Tournament

VALHALLA, N.Y. – The host Mount Pleasant Thunder girls’ softball team was victorious in a two-day 16-and-under softball tournament hosted by the Kensico Little League Association on July 8 and 9. Sydni Holtz pitched and won all four tournament games for Kensico and earned the tournament’s Most Valuable Player award.

The six-team tournament also included teams from Bryn Mawr (Yonkers), Greenwich (14-and 16-under) and Ossining and was played at the Pat Henry and Virginia Road fields.The Mount Pleasant Thunder girls’ team topped the Greenwich Lady Red Birds in the third-fourth place playoff.

“We want to thank all of the Kensico Little League officials who made our very first summer tournament possible,” organizer Nick Mafia said. “And to all of the teams, coaches, and, of course, the players who helped to make the tournament such a success.

Maffei also thanks the Kensico parents who volunteered their time and help. “It really was two terrific days at our fields,” Maffei said. “And a big hand to the very competitive Greenwich Lady Red Birds 14-and-under team, who were defeated by the Mt. Pleasant Thunder in the playoff game.”
