Kensico's Rally Falls Short in District 20 Playoff

ARDSLEY, N.Y. – Kensico’s comeback from a three-run deficit in the top of the sixth inning was short-lived when Rye scored in the bottom of the sixth Wednesday to pull out a 4-3 victory in the District 20 Little League 9-10-year-old playoffs at McDowell Field.

Rye, which has one loss in the double-elimination tournament, advanced to a Friday game at Disbrow Park in Rye. Kensico lost its second game of the playoffs and was eliminated from further play.

Grant Meyerson’s clutch walk-off single to right field in the bottom of the sixth inning was the game-winning hit for Rye. Troy Egan walked and Jamie Abt reached on an error to set up Meyerson’s game winner.

Nick Petrelli and Gavin Astrella each had a big hit in the sixth to help Kensico’s late-game comeback.

Rye gave away a 3-0 lead in the top of the sixth inning when Kensico got a two-run double from Dylan McLaughlin and added another run on a wild pitch to tie the score at 3-3.
