Mount Pleasant Galaxy Soccer Caps Unbeaten Season

MOUNT PLEASANT, N.Y. – The Mount Pleasant Galaxy Under-15 girls' soccer team began its season with a strong group of multi-sport players who bonded quickly and rolled through an unbeaten season.

The Galaxy rolled up a record of 8-0-1 in Division I of the Westchester Youth Soccer League, outscoring opponents by an astounding 28-1. Coached by Rob Papa, Sean Brosnan, Declan Redfern and Peter Catto, the girls went through a good preseason training program and were ready to hit the pitch by the start of the season.

"By the beginning of the season, the players, many of whom participate in multiple sports, were fit and strong and determined to make up for a past season where results often didn't go the Galaxy's way," Redfern said. "The season started well with a convincing win, with Galaxy dominating possession for long periods of the game and players growing in confidence as they used the possession to force the other team to chase the ball."

The Galaxy coaches' recipe for success continued through the undefeated season dominating ball possession and boating a stingy defense that recorded eight shutouts.

"The defense permitted the offensive players to play direct, positive soccer, which led to an almost perfect season," Redfern said.

The Galaxy players were Anelise Catto, Emma DeLoughry, Lena Foncello, Francesca Guzzo, Lauren Holzer, Katherine Khouri, Allison Khouri, Kristen Khouri, Christa Leoni, Jacqueline McMorrow, Carina Papa, McKenzie Redfern, Brianna Rodemeyer, Taylor Russo, Kaitlyn Schmid, Helen You, Zena Briggs, Erin Brosnan and Maria Castellaneta.
