VALHALLA, N.Y. - The Kensico Little League Mariners opened their Majors Division season with three straight victories including Monday's game against the Reds when the teams honored those killed and injured in the Boston Marathon bombings.
The Mariners took the Reds 11-6 on opening day last week and defeated the Braves 3-0 Monday after a pre-game moment of silence for the tragedy in Boston that happened earlier that day. The Mariners topped the Braves 14-3 in Friday's third game of the season.
Manager Joe Rush’s Mariners used the battery of Joe Pecora pitching and Jordan Rush to hold the Reds scoreless through five innings on opening day. With speedster Mikey Ferrara leading off and the lefty swinging Brody McGuinn batting behind him, the Mariners were staked to an early lead that held up for the victory
Evan Parker took the mound in Game 2 and guided the team to a solid 3 to 0 win over the Braves. Nick Giuliano slammed two triples and Eric Reyes, Brandon Ferrante and Joseph Marmo each added to the offense.
