MOUNT PLEASANT, N.Y. – The NJCAA named Westchester Community College sophomore Pat Farina, an outfielder on the school’s baseball team, as the Division II Player of the Week.
Farina had a tremendous week as he batted .429 (12-for-28) with 17 RBI, three doubles, one triple and two home runs. He also stole 10 bases and drew six walks.
The sophomore helped WCC (25-9-1 Overall, 9-4 Region, 9-4 Conference) defeat Bergen Community College, 13-3, last Wednesday in an inter-region game at home. The next day, WCC clobbered rival Rockland Community College, 15-2, at home.
WCC’s softball team had a fairly successful run in a week packed with action. On Tuesday, the Vikings scored seven times in the bottom of the fifth inning to beat Queensborough, 11-3. Yorktown High School graduate Carolyn Farmer recorded her fourth win of the season in that game.
The Vikings played a Mid-Hudson Conference doubleheader Thursday and lost the first game, 3-2, to Orange County Community College in 10 innings. The win against WCC gave the Colts the 2012 Mid-Hudson Conference Championship. WCC then took game two, 8-0.
In the first game of a doubleheader Saturday, Farmer earned her fifth win and lowered her ERA to 2.21 as the Vikings ended their conference season with a 12-0 win at Ulster Community College. WCC lost the second game of the day, a Region XV match-up, 3-1.
WCC’s scheduled doubleheader in Bridgeport, Connecticut against Sacred Heart University was cancelled due to rain.
