Ronac Runs Valhalla Football To Convincing Win

VALHALLA, N.Y. — Valhalla quarterback Miro Ronac knew it was just a matter of time before he broke off a big run Friday against Briarcliff. The quarterback keepers were working well, and the junior could tell his moment would come.

The moment came in the second quarter when the junior signal caller busted loose on a 27-yard keeper. It was just the beginning of a big rushing night for Ronac en route to Valhalla’s convincing 27-0 victory over Briarcliff, a Class B school, in a Section 1 football game.

Ronac ran for 127 yards and also threw for a touchdown in the first half, and 161 yards on 13 carries overall, as the Vikings, a Class C school, amassed 330 yards on the ground. Christian Alvarado added 77 yards.

As impressive as the offense was, the defense was even better, holding Briarcliff to less than 100 yards of total offense. Terrence Tribble and Paul Viviano combined on a sack and Michael Linnane had an interception.

“On each of those plays, I kept following our fullback, Michael Linnane, and he just kept hitting people,” said Ronac, who sat out most of the second half with a leg cramp. “On our first touchdown, I knew the play was going to get us a lot of yardage. Once I saw the hole, I ran through it and saw the end zone and nobody was going to stop me along the way.”

Ronac added a 5-yard touchdown toss to Terrence Tribble with 44 seconds remaining in the first half. Ronac carried out the play-fake to Linnane, rolled right and hit the 6-foot-3 Tribble in the right corner of the end zone.

Valhalla improved to 2-2 and will have a week off before returning to action Saturday, Oct. 13, against Blind Brook.
