Scarsdale Hands Kenisco Loss in District Baseball

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Kevin Strnad went three for four with three RBI and Brian McKillop added two hits and two RBI as Elmsford defeated Kensico, 14-3 in a District 20 Little League Baseball 10-11-year-old losers’ bracket game at Gedney Field, Wednesday.

Elmsford will play the Eastchester-White Plains winner in a semifinal, Friday, 5:45 p.m., at Pat Henry Field in Valhalla. Whoever wins this game advances to the losers’ bracket final, Sunday, 1 p.m., at Disbrow Park in Rye.

Winning pitcher Nick Mafaraci had a no-hitter through four innings. He allowed one hit and struck out five before he was relieved by Brendon Julie one batter into the fifth inning. Elmsford scored twice in the first inning on four consecutive singles. It added three runs in the second inning on a McKillop triple, scoring pinch runner Travis Cowles. Strnad and Julie would score the second and third runs, respectively, on wild pitches.

Mafaraci rang up his five strikeouts in the first two innings, including striking out the side in the second. Kensico scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Joe Patti broke up Mafaraci’s no-hitter with a double to deep center. Patti and Ricky Grumblatt scored on an error and Christian Petrilli earned an RBI the hard way, being hit by a pitch to bring home Santiago Osorio.
