VALHALLA, N.Y. -- Madeline DeMilio, a graduate of Valhalla High School and captain of the SUNY Cobleskill women’s softball team, has been selected as the 2015 Fred Bennett Outstanding Female Athlete Award winner for her accomplishments during 2014-15 academic year.

DeMilio, a junior, received the honor at the college’s recent 2015 Athletic Awards Convocation. This marks the second consecutive year that the Valhalla native has been named the program’s Athlete of the Year.

Named after Cobleskill’s late longtime athletic director/head coach Fred Bennett, the award is presented yearly to the female athlete whose season and career have been deemed by the department of sport and exercise staff to be the most outstanding among female athletes.

The catcher led the Fighting Tigers to the North Eastern Athletic Conference North Division Co-Championship as the team posted a program-best 21-8 overall record, including a 15-5 record in conference play.

The Cobleskill team captain was named to the 2015 All-NEAC first team by the league’s coaches and became the first player in Cobleskill softball history to earn NEAC North Division Player of the Year honors in back-to-back seasons as well as being named the Fighting Tigers softball team Most Valuable Player honors the past two seasons.

DeMilio was a second team All-NEAC selection in 2013 as well as the NEAC North Division Rookie of the Year.

During the season, the Valhalla native led the NEAC in batting average and ranked eighth overall in the NCAA Division III National Standings by hitting .495, going 51-for-103 at the plate, including 11 doubles, three triples, five home runs and 23 runs batted in during the campaign.

Batting in the leadoff spot DeMilio scored 43 runs and was successful on 11-of-11 stolen base attempts. She was also second in the conference in on-base percentage at .531 and slugging percentage at .806 this season.
