Valhalla Football Looks To Beat Perfect Rye Neck

VALHALLA, N.Y. – Terrance Tribble and his Valhalla High School football teammates are quite focused and determined to close out the regular season with a win Friday when the Vikings host undefeated Rye Neck High School at 7 p.m.

The Vikings still recall the 2011 meeting against Rye Neck, the weekend of the freak October snowstorm.

“We lost to them and we don’t think we played our game that day,” Tribble said. “We want to show Rye Neck we can play with them and we can win.”

Valhalla is coming off of its second consecutive win – 34-7 over Blind Brook. The Vikings, who have qualified for the Section 1 Class C Football Championships, will be facing a Rye Neck defense that has not allowed a point this season. Even with this statistic, Valhalla is prepared to execute its offensive game plan.

“When a team hasn’t given up any points on defense they are obviously doing something right,” Tribble said.

Valhalla’s offense is triggered by quarterback Miro Ronac. The junior is equally effective running and throwing the ball. Michael Linnane and Christian Alvarado fuel the running game and Tribble is a tall, fast receiver who can make a big play.

“We’ve had a very good week of practice with everyone working hard because we know the importance of this game,” Tribble said. “We feel we are going in with a great game plan.

“We want to control and move the ball, limit our turnovers, as much as we can, and stick to our game plan,” Tribble said.

Valhalla’s defense has been quite stingy at home this season, allowing just seven points in three games.

“We seem to play better on our home field,” Tribble said. “Our defense has always been a strength. Everyone knows their responsibilities and we are clicking right now.”
