VALHALLA, N.Y. ? The Valhalla Jr. Vikings Youth Football Club completed the 2012 season with a 14-0 victory over the Tuckahoe Tigers, a Thanksgiving Day scrimmage and a banquet.
In the victory over Tuckahoe, fifth- and sixth-grade quarterback Brody McGuinn teamed with tailback Sebastian Pacheco and receiver Jordan Rush on an option run-pass to the Tuckahoe 10, and Joe Pecora ran the rest of the way for the first score.
McGuinn followed blocks by lineman Matt Connolly and Ritchie Nagashima and hit Pacheco for a 6-yard touchdown pass to make it 14-0.
On Thanksgiving Day, the team joined family and fans for the Turkey Bowl, which brings 40 Vikings together for the season-ending intra-squad scrimmage. The players are put on evenly matched teams comprised of players from first through sixth grade for 30-minute exhibition games.
Sunday's banquet was attended by more than 250 people at the Westchester Manor in Hastings-on-Hudson and included video highlight, speeches and the presentation of trophies. Each player was recognized for his season-long efforts and awarded a trophy to honor the conclusion of a season, which began in early August and ran through Nov. 25.
Each of the tackle age-group teams presented its “Viking Award,” which recognizes the teammate who "epitomized the characteristics of a tough football player with good character, a lunch-pail work ethic and good sportsmanship." This year’s recipients were running back Danny Tammaro from the third- and fourth-grade team and McGuinn from the fifth- and sixth-grade squad.
