VALHALLA, N.Y. -- The Valhalla High School girls' varsity softball team recently was victorious at the James "Ace" Morabito Memorial Invitational Softball Tournament.

Congratulations to the Vikings who defeated Port Jervis and Iroquois to win the title May 10. The win earned them the distinction of becoming the first team from Section 1 to win the tournament since 2007. The 10 girls traveled to Herkimer, N.Y. for the weekend to compete. The Vikings beat Port Jervis, 3-1, in the semifinals followed by a 6-2 win against Iroquois in the finals. Kaylie Dymek was named the tournament's "Most Valuable Player" and Syndi Holtz earned her 50th career win.
