Valhalla Vikings Fall to White Plains Bernies

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – The Valhalla Junior Vikings faced the big-city White Plains Bernies and despite a second half comeback fell 28-14 Saturday.

Joe Pecora, Eric Pasquallone, and Mikey Ferrara all ran the ball in the Vikings opening drives that stalled at the White Plains 35-yard line. The Bernies responded with a drive of their own, but the Vikes stood strong with a great defensive effort led by Mikey Sullivan, Louis Decarlo, and Matt Connolly. But the Bernies were able to punch in for the first score of the game on a fourth down play to take a 7-0 lead.

A back-and-forth battle ensued with Valhalla controlling the ball for long stretches on the clock. Injuries forced Viking’s starting center, Mike Sullivan, and quarterback Brody McGuinn to the sideline stalling the Valhalla offense. The half ended with the score 14-0 White Plains.

In the second half with McGuinn and Sullivan back in game the Vikes finally began to click. Ferrara scored twice on two runs and a 14-14 tie. Louis Decarlo forced the Bernies tailback to fumble in their end and Valhalla seemed to have momentum.

McGuinn went to the air and connected with Dylan McGlaughlin and James Harnady for nice gains.

White Plains regained control after several bad breaks and a couple of penalties shifted the momentum and the Bernies scored twice for a 28-14 final

Valhalla travels to Westlake to take on the Wildcats next Saturday.
