Westlake comes into football camp ready to excel

Matt Hill felt Westlake’s participation in the 2010 five-day White Plains Football Camp was beneficial so he was hoping that the Wildcats would return this year. “I liked the intensity of playing here last year,” said the senior tight end/linebacker who will be in his fourth year on varsity in 2011. “The different teams we faced enabled us to challenge ourselves.” Westlake coach Rich Hennessy agreed with Hill’s assessment and the Wildcats returned to White Plains Saturday for opening day of the 2011 camp. Also participating in the camp are Byram Hills, Edgemont, Rye Neck and host White Plains. The teams practice each night from 5-8:30 p.m. and will conclude with scrimmages Wednesday. “Last year, I felt it helped the team improve and it helped me improve,” Hill said. Westlake, like all of the teams, had the shoulder pads and helmets on and were engaging in drills. “It felt really good to put the equipment on and get back into it,” Hill said. Even though Westlake graduated a large senior group, Hill was pleased with the first night. “Everyone was going after it and hitting hard,” Hill said. “We didn’t have to push the young guys. They wanted to be here. I liked their intensity.”
