MOUNT PLEASANT, N.Y. The Westlake High School football team lost an emotional 17-14 game to Nanuet on Saturday. Now, the 2-3 Wildcats must win their final two games to have any hope of making the postseason.
Westlake fell just short against Nanuet in a game that had crucial playoff implications for both teams. After the game, head coach Rich Hennessy made no excuses.
Like I told the guys, rest up, get healthy and Monday we start focusing on Croton, Hennessy said.
Westlake will travel to Croton-Harmon on Saturday to face a Tigers team that needs a win just as badly as the Wildcats. To top it off, Westlake senior tight end Jesse Tully suffered a gruesome ankle injury toward the end of the game against Nanuet.
The kids a warrior, Hennessy said. His first focus, even when he was injured, was the team. I mean, the kids got unbelievable heart and I just wish the best for him.
The Wildcats played a disappointing game against Nanuet as their running attack never got going the way it has in other games this season. When asked if the team must make adjustments or if they just played a poor game, Hennessy said he thought it was a little of both.
Well watch the film well see what adjustments we need to make and well move on, Hennessy said.
Westlake will face Croton on Saturday and plays Irvington in the final game of the regular season.
