Westlake High's Girls' Basketball Earns First Place In Kathy Mayer Tourney

MOUNT PLEASANT, N.Y. -- Westlake High School's girls' basketball team took first place in the Kathy Mayer Classic Tournament held on Friday Jan. 30 and Saturday, Jan 31 at Sacred Heart High School, beating Sacred Heart 55-27.

In the classic's six-year history, the Lady Wildcats have won five titles. 

Senior Faith Lovett was named the tournament MVP for the third straight time and Katie Cullen was named to the All-Tournament team for the second year in a row.  Lovett had 24 points in the first round versus Cathedral High School (they won 63-43) and 17 points versus Sacred Heart.  Kathy Mayer, a longtime basketball coach at Sacred Heart, is the mother of Westlake coach Sean Mayer and the tournament's namesake.

Kathy Mayer, the tournament's namesake; Michael DiNardo, the team manager; Assistant Coach Carrie Mayer; basketball players Natalie Alfieri, Kelly Martin, Lauren Holzer, Kali Oswald, Angela Mangione, Jesi Oswald and Mia Malandruccolo; senior team captains Katie Cullen, Katie Schmid and Faith Lovett;  Coach Sean Mayer and Athletic Director Donna Pirro.
