VALHALLA, N.Y. -- In a battle of defenses, the Westlake Wildcats shut out top-ranked Nanuet, 6-0, to win the Class B football championship Saturday, Nov. 7, at Somers High School.
The game's only scoring came on two field goals by senior Michael Love.
Greg Alfieri made the game-ending tackle for Westlake with 14 seconds left and Nanuet on the Wildcats' 3-yard-line.
The win marked the Wildcats' first Class B title since 1983.
Westlake advances to the regional playoffs at 1:30 p.m. Saturday against Marlboro at Sleepy Hollow High School.
Admission is $9 or $5 for children under 12 and senior citizens.
