Melissa Werger Rosen and her son Jordan will be hosting a Love Hope Strength registry drive, where they hope to “swab as many people as possible to add to the international bone marrow registry,”
Rosen said. The registry booth was first conceived by Jordan, who pushed to have it at last year's festival.
Love Hope Strength conducts bone marrow registries across the United States, Mexico and the United Kingdom, in addition to raising funds for cancer treatment centers around the world. Rosen described it as “a two-minute process.”
Residents will swab the inside of their cheeks for 60 seconds. The swabs are then sent to Love Hope Strength and their partner Delete Blood Cancer to process and add people to the bone marrow registry.
“Finding a bone marrow match is incredibly rare, like a needle in a global haystack,” Rosen said. “From last year's festival, two potentially life-saving matches have already been found, which is incredible,” Rosen said. “The more people on the registry, the more chances of locating a match—now, or at some point down the line.”
