VALHALLA, N.Y. - Joan J. Stone of Valhalla, died March 25 at Phelps Memorial Hospital Center in Sleepy Hollow. She was 71.
She was born on Dec. 12, 1940 to the late John and Marie Cronin in Mt. Vernon. A self-employed registered nurse, Stone was an active parishioner at Holy Name of Jesus Church in Valhalla. There, she was a member of the Rosary Altar Society and the Basic Folk Group. Stone was also a member of the first group of Companions in the Community of the Devine Compassion.
She was predeceased by her husband Harry J. Stone in 1999. Stone is survived by her sons Harry (Grace) Stone Jr. of Valhalla, John (Maria) Stone of White Plains, Michael (Jonathan Mador) Stone of Bridgeport, Conn., her daughter Lori (John) Werdann of Pensacola, Fla., her sister Jackie Russell of Hollywood, Fla., nine grandchildren and a great-grandson.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at Hawthorne Funeral Home . The funeral mass will take place at Holy Name of Jesus Church at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, followed by entombment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cerebral Palsy Foundation.
