Veterans Day: Wednesday is Veteran’s Day, a national Holiday. Village Hall, DPW-Highway, Recreation, the Village Court and the Library are all closed. There will be no valet service. However, for the Westside Circuit, paper and bulk metal will be picked up. Comingled recyclables (plastic, metal cans and glass) pick-up is being moved to Thursday.

Con Edison Tree Work: The tree trimming and removal of trees in the VBM’s right of way continues as a part of Con Ed’s program to “harden” the power lines. Our recent meeting with Con Ed confirmed the near completion of what we have called the “bump-out” sector work. The trench work has been completed, filled in and a binder top coat of asphalt laid down. Basically, we intend to have the disturbed areas compress and settle during the winter. We look to spring for a “redressing” and pavement of the disturbed roads.

Leaf/debris pick-up: The first loop of our fall clean-up has begun. It is obvious the trees are slow in letting go but they will be coming down sooner or later. Please do not mix branches or twigs with the leaves; it will jam our leaf vacuum.

Police Coat Drive: Their annual coat drive seeks for new or gently used winter coats to be dropped off at police headquarters, 1111 Pleasantville Road, at any time through Dec. 18.

Annual Toy Drive: Drop off new, unwrapped toys at police headquarters at any time through Dec. 18. All toys will be delivered to the Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at the Westchester Medical Center.

Platform Season: Both of the platform tennis courts are open and ready for play. Permits are required and may be purchased at the recreation office, by mail or through the department’s online registration system. Visit the recreation page of the village's website for detailed information. This is a great year to give this exciting cool-weather sport a try, so call the recreation office if you have any questions.
