Con Edison Road Work Tops Briarcliff Village Manager's Report

BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. -- Work by Con Ed crews on gas mains in and around the intersection of Pleasantville and South State roads is proceeding slightly ahead of schedule, according to Village Manager Philip E. Zegarelli’s latest report.

Motorists should note, Zegarelli said, that the asphalt patches topping the work trenches are only temporary. The road will be fully restored at a later date, he said.

These are the other items of interest in Zegarellli’s report:

  • The Club Field, which is undergoing its annual seasonal restoration, will not be open before Friday.
  • The Youth Center’s annual “Back with a Splash” pool and dance party for students in the 5th through 8th grades is set for 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at the village pool. Tickets are $15 if you pre-register for the event, or $20 at the door. For further information, go to the Youth Center’s link on the recreation page of the village’s website.
  • Community Day activities are scheduled from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12 on the Club Field and in Law Park. The village pool will also be open from 12 noon – 6 p.m. for one last chance to swim. Permits are not required. Youth and adult “Bubble Soccer” games will take place on the field from 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. Fireworks begin at 8:30 p.m. Not-for-profit, community-based groups interested in participating in Community Day can email Superintendent of Recreation Henry Jamin at hjamin@briarcliffmanor.org, or call the Recreation office at (914)-941-6560.
  • The Briarcliff Manor Public Library's fall program brochure is now available in print at the library and online at http://www.briarcliffmanorlibrary.org/brochure.pdf. A wide range of programs are planned for adults, teenagers and children, including: book discussion groups, movies, computer classes, speakers, crafts, story times and more.   • Hydrant flushing resumed Tuesday, Sept. 8, and continues until Friday, Sept 11. For the list of areas to be flushed go to the manager's report here. Flushing takes place each day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Residents are advised to expect discolored water during the hours of flushing. The water is continuously tested and contains no harmful bacteria, the village report said.
