Pocket Park Parking Lot Work Tops Briarcliff Village Manager's Report

BRIARCLIFF, N.Y. -- Village Manager Philip E. Zegarelli is reminding residents that Briarcliff’s “mini” parking lot will be closed while a fuel leakage problem is being working on.

Fuel leaked under the pocket park’s lot from a nearby gas station, Zegarelli said in his latest report.

The village is working with the state Department of Environmental Conservation to clean up the site by the coming spring.

In other items in the village manager’s report:

  • Dead trees: Zegarelli is warning motorists to be on the alert this week while the Westchester County Parks Department and the state Department of Transportation remove dead trees along Pleasantville Road and southbound Route 9A. Work started Monday, Dec. 14, and crews are expected to be on the scene from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Overnight parking ban: Overnight parking is prohibited through March 31 from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. on any village street, road, or municipal parking lot. The exception is the Scarborough Train Station parking lot. Overnight parking at the village’s railroad station lot is prohibited from 3 a.m. to 6 a.m. Violators will be fined.
  • Police Department: Village police are holding a toy and a coat drive. Gently used or new coats, and new, unwrapped toys can be dropped off at police headquarters, 1111 Pleasantville Road, at any time through Friday, Dec. 18.
  • Fire and Ambulance Corps: The Santa’s Express has been scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 20.
  • Library and Community Center: Candle Holder Craft. 3-4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13. For ages 6 - 9. Children over 10 are encouraged to come be helpers. Registration is required. Please email Amy Kaplan at abgkaplan@gmail.com or call the Library at (914) 941-7072.
  • "Letters to Santa": There’s a special mailbox at the Post Office for all letters to the North Pole. Children should address their letters to "Santa Claus - North Pole" and place them in the mailbox before Tuesday, Dec. 15. There is no postage necessary, but the child's name and a return address should be included so Santa and his helpers can respond.
