“Our new maintenance building will serve as an essential addition to the new iconic crossing,” said Maria Lehman, New York State Thruway Authority interim executive director and chief operating officer. “Fast, easy access to the Thruway means reduced response times in emergencies, while our environmentally-friendly facility will provide adequate space for our employees to keep equipment in optimal operating condition.”

The building will be used to maintain the new three-mile crossing over the Hudson River.

The 26,000 facility will be adjacent to the New York State Thruway (I-87/I-287) at 333 S. Broadway in Tarrytown.

Thruway personnel including administration, emergency response, mechanics, welders, painters, electricians and dock crews will be housed at the facility.

“The State Police and Thruway Authority play a critical role in helping to keep the bridge safe for drivers,” said State Police Troop T Commander Major Joseph Dodd. “This new facility will help us respond quickly to maintain traffic flow and safety on the roadway and bridge. It will also improve our ability to remove a disabled vehicle from a traffic lane into the breakdown lane; this will help prevent a minor incident from turning into a major delay.”

A new barracks for State Police Troop T will also be constructed as part of the project.

The new facility is scheduled to replace the existing structure in 2018.
