William G. McCarthy, 84, Of Valhalla

MOUNT PLEASANT, N.Y. -- William G. McCarthy, 84, a longtime resident of Valhalla, died April 20, 2016.

Born in Newark, N.J. to Eugene and Margaret McCarthy, he served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Afterwards, he attending American University, graduating in 1957.

McCarthy was a former director of development at Columbia University and coached Kensico Little League for more than 20 years. His great passions were baseball, dancing and movies. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Beatrice (nee Queally); his nine children, Laura McGowan (Robert), Mark (Cecilia), Gregory (Jennifer), Carolyn Frawley (Thomas), Matthew (Karen), Christian (Tamra), Eugene, Kent (Tyler) and Lee (Erin); and 21 grandchildren. 

Reposing will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Hawthorne Funeral Home. There will be a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Rosary Church in Hawthorne. Interment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his memory to The New York State Veterans' Home at Montrose.
