Original report:

A Long Island man believed to have kidnapped his own son is on the run and authorities are asking the public's help in finding them.

John Ligurgo III, 43, could be armed with a hunting rifle, Suffolk County Police say. He is believed to be with his son,  2-year-old Jovani Ligurgo.

The two were last seen at 7 a.m. Tuesday at the father’s condo in Coram. A bedroom in the condo, which was unoccupied at the time, caught fire Tuesday afternoon, less than an hour before the boy was reporting missing. The fire, which is being investigated and considered suspicious, was controlled before spreading beyond the bedroom.

Jovani's mother reported him missing when he wasn't dropped off at her home in Smithtown on Tuesday afternoon as was planned.

John Ligurgo, who may be armed with a hunting rifle, is believed to be driving a black Jeep Grand Cherokee with New York plates GAV4699.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or contact Suffolk County detectives at 631-854-8652.
