THORNWOOD, N.Y. The mother of DJ Henry took to social media this week to express her thoughts on Tuesday's questioning of the police officer who took her sons life nearly two years ago.
Today we took a step forward in our fight for justice, Angella Henry said in a Facebook post. We looked at the person who took our son's life in the eyes but he didn't look back. We sat and listened to him and to many I don't recalls, I can't remember, I'm not sure.
Pleasantville Police Officer Aaron Hess was questioned by the lawyer for Henrys family, Michael Sussman, in a private deposition Tuesday at the U.S. District Court in White Plains. It was the first time that Sussman was able to question Hess, who is being represented by lawyer Brian Sokoloff. Henrys family is suing Hess for the death of their son DJ in October 2010.
Over the past three days, Henry has posted messages to friends and family members of her son in a Facebook group dedicated to his memory. On Wednesday morning, Henry said she had a vision of justice for her sons death.
When I sat in the court room yesterday and looked around at the many empty seats, I imagined that the seats were filled with the countless people who are standing with us, fighting with us, praying with us, Henry said. I imaged that the room was filled to capacity with supporters.
Although the deposition was private, Henry said that a copy of the transcript will soon be available to the public.
In October 2010, Hess fired several times into the 20-year-old Henrys Nissan while on the hood of the car, killing the former Pace football player. Henry struck Hess with his car while leaving the fire lane outside of Finnegans Bar & Grill in Thornwood after an altercation broke out in the bar. Hess was not indicted on any criminal charges related to the incident.
