Officers from the Scarsdale Police Department were dispatched to the intersection of Palmer Avenue and Mamaroneck Road shortly before noon on Friday, Jan. 26, where there were reports of an auto accident involving a driver in a dark-colored van that had fled the scene after striking the other vehicle.

Police canvassed the area, eventually stopping Miami Beach, Fla. resident Diana Rodriguez near the intersection of Mamaroneck Road and Post Road after officers spotted the van with “substantial damage on the passenger side” traveling northbound on Post Road.

According to police, as officers approached the vehicle, Rodriguez stated that she had left the scene to bring her friend to a nearby hospital, though the officer said none of the occupants of the van would consent to speak with him. Paramedics were subsequently called to the scene to tend to the injured passenger, who was treated for an undisclosed injury.

Rodriguez was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor count of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident. She was arraigned and released on her own recognizance. Rodriguez is due back in Scarsdale Justice Court on Wednesday to answer the charge.
