ID Released For Woman Visiting Killed In Single-Car Tarrytown Crash

A woman who was killed in a single-vehicle crash during a visit from India to attend a Westchester wedding has been identified.

Police said that Bina Chopra, age unknown, was killed during the crash around 10 p.m. Saturday on South Broadway near Benedict Avenue in Tarrytown, said Tarrytown Police Lt. Greg Budnar.

The crash occurred when the vehicle, that contained the driver and four passengers, was traveling south on Route 9 when it veered off the roadway onto the property of the Washington Irving School before coming to a stop in the backyard of a home at 5 Park Ave., police said.

All four occupants were transported to Westchester Medical Center, where Chopra was pronounced dead. The three others suffered non-life-threatening injuries. 

Officers were assisted at the scene by Tarrytown firefighters, the Tarrytown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, the Irvington Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Greenburgh paramedics, and Westchester County police Accident Investigation Unit.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
