Police in Northern Westchester pulled out all the stops to track down a hiker who found himself lost in the woods.

Members of the Bedford Police Department received a report at approximately 7:40 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 18 from area resident Leroy Junker, who said he was lost on the trails of the Westmoreland Sanctuary.

Police said that while investigating the lost man, they determined he was actually in the Arthur Butler Sanctuary, not the Westmoreland Sanctuary. Utilizing the Bedford Police Department’s Utility Terrain Vehicle, officers set up a command post and tracked down Junker.

According to police, Junker was found within a half hour and returned from the wild unharmed. No injuries were reported and he was brought back without further incident.
