The department has recently been receiving complaints from some residents about receiving calls from individuals stating that they were the winning recipient of a sweepstakes, usually Publishing Clearing House. The individuals calling will ask residents to send them money, purchase gifts cards or other means of "paying" up front to receive a prize, police said.

The police advise residents not to give these individuals any form of payment or information.

Those who feel uncertain are advised to contact the police department with the number in which they were instructed to call back.
