Astorino Calls Trump Tweet On Bronxville's Brzezinski 'Stupid'

County Executive Rob Astorino joined a growing list of people condemning President Donald Trump's attacks last week on Bronxville's Mika Brzezinski, co-anchor of MSNBC's, "Morning Joe."

During an appearance hosting The Mark Simone Show on WOR 710 AM Friday, Astorino said instead of talking about important issues, we're talking about Trump's tweets.

"These tweets are stupid and he brought it on himself," Astorino said. "The tweets are crazy. Even if you chuckled, you probably winced at the same time."

Last week, Trump tweeted, "I heard poorly rated Morning Joe speaks badly of me (don't watch anymore). "Then how come low I.Q. Crazy Mika, along with Psycho Joe, came to Mar-a-Lago 3 nights in a row around New Year's Eve and insisted on joining me. She was bleeding badly from a face-lift. I said no."

The tweet was condemned by lawmakers on both sides of the aisle. Astorino endorsed Trump once he wrapped up the Republican nomination last year.

Later on the show, Astorino said there is generally a kernel of truth to Trump's tweets and that maybe Brzezinski was bleeding and didn't want that to be known.

"So she lashes out," Astorino said. "This is his way of saying, 'You're coming to come after me, I'm going to come back after you, make sure you know. That drives some of these people crazy...because they know he's got something in there that's right."

Legislator Catherine Borgia (D-Ossining) ripped Astorino for that comment.

"Westchester needs better than a leader who makes misogynistic jokes about women and deserves better than a leader who thinks exacting political retribution is an appropriate way for an elected official to behave. We must, and can, do better," Borgia said.

Jessica Proud, a spokeswoman for Astorino, said Borgia was cherry-picking his words to manufacture a false narrative.

"It is a demonstration of the type of ugly politics that we all, as Americans, need to forcefully reject," Proud said.

Trump, who owns the $19 million Seven Springs estate in Bedford, also owns Trump National Golf Club Hudson Valley in Stormville and Trump National Westchester in Briarcliff Manor.

The Trump name also adorns Trump Tower At City Center in White Plains, Trump Plaza in New Rochelle, Trump Park Residences in Yorktown and the Donald J. Trump State Park on the Westchester/Putnam border.
